For those wandering through Rome or other jewels of our beloved Italia, a visit to a rooftop bar is more than just a stop for drinks—it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the heart of Italian culture. These elevated escapes offer more than libations; they’re about savouring gourmet bites, soaking in the city’s unparalleled atmosphere, and taking in the architecture that makes Rome one of the world’s most enchanting destinations. There’s a magnetic pull to the rooftops here—the allure of a panoramic view that sweeps across the Eternal City, a skyline that feels timeless and alive all at once.
If you’re on the hunt for the finest spots to enjoy a cocktail with a backdrop of Rome’s stunning skyline, you’re in for something special. Here’s a guide to four of Rome’s best hotel rooftop bars—each with its own unique blend of Italian hospitality, style, and breathtaking views. These are places where the city’s iconic charm unfolds before you, and every sunset feels like it belongs to you alone.
1. The Rome Edition: where sleek design and historic elegance converge
As one of Marriott’s newest ventures, The Rome Edition is a hotel that captures the heartbeat of contemporary Rome while paying homage to its storied past. This luxury property promises an experience that feels both cutting-edge and quintessentially Roman, wrapped in an aesthetic that’s sleek, stylish, and sophisticated.
At the heart of The Rome Edition is The Roof, a rooftop bar that seamlessly converges a touch of Miami-chic with ancient history between the atmosphere and views. Minimalist décor and clean lines with cream lounge furniture frame the perfectly simple yet elegant pool to create a chic atmosphere that feels akin to an exclusive beach club. The view is nothing short of spectacular, with a sea of terracotta rooftops unfurling below, a timeless reminder of Rome’s layered history.
The menu strikes a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, honouring Italian classics while introducing unexpected twists. A traditional Aperol Spritz sits comfortably next to inventive creations that feature rare bitters and local liqueurs, each sip a nod to Italy’s rich cocktail heritage.
I chose my new favourite, the Hugo Spritz. A sip of Italian Alpine freshness—light-hearted Elderflower liqueur brings a gentle floral sweetness, mingling with the crisp bubbles of Prosecco and a splash of soda, creating a drink that takes you straight to the grandeur beauty of the Dolomites. Fresh mint adds a refreshing herbal note, while a slice of lime provides a bright burst of citrus to each sip. It’s a cocktail that invites you to slow down and savour life’s simple pleasures, celebrating la dolce vita with every refreshing taste.

As I left the hotel, I chatted with the lovely concierge staff about the latest addition to the new hospitality brand. I discovered that the brand had just come alive within the last year, with, impressively, 20 locations of luxury and historical charm, strategically placed across the globe.

The Rome Edition is a place where the new and the old dance effortlessly together, inviting a fresh generation of travelers to experience Rome in a way that feels both exciting and familiar. This is a location I will stay at in my dreams of my next adventures in Roma.
2. Bvlgari Hotel Rome: where timeless Italian sophistication meets rooftop romance
Opened just last year, the Bvlgari Hotel exudes a rare blend of classic Roman charm and modern elegance—a true haven for anyone seeking the pinnacle of luxury in Italy.
The crown jewel of the property is undoubtedly The Bvlgari Bar’s terrazza, a rooftop space that embodies the brand’s understated opulence. Here, high above Rome’s vibrant streets, you’ll find a seamless connection between sky and city, as the terrace opens up to stunning vistas—domes and spires rising over Via di Ripetta, with the historic grandeur of Piazza Augusto Imperatore unfolding below. It’s a setting that feels both grand and intimate, like being invited to a private viewing of Rome’s timeless beauty.

As daylight fades and the first stars begin to wink above this beautiful city, the terrazza transforms, drawing in those who crave a refined, yet unassuming atmosphere. The cocktail menu is as curated as the Bvlgari jewelry line itself—classic Italian staples share the stage with inventive signatures, each crafted with the finest ingredients, from a perfectly balanced Negroni alongside inventive cocktails that incorporate local herbs and seasonal fruits. I couldn’t resist trying the hotel’s namesake beverage, The Bvlgari Cocktail—a sun-kissed sip of Milanese elegance, captured in a glass. Each ingredient is a tribute to Italy’s vibrant spirit: the crisp snap of London dry gin nods to classic refinement, while Aperol’s playful bitterness evokes the sun-drenched piazzas of the recent Roman afternoon. Fresh pineapple, orange, and lime juices bring a cascade of refreshing and tart citrus. It’s a cocktail that balances sophistication and warmth, much like the city that inspired it. With each sip, you’re transported to a world of effortless style and joie de vivre—a celebration of Italian lifestyle, brimming with zest and charisma.

There’s an ease to this space, a sense that luxury doesn’t have to shout. The attentive staff elevate the experience with their warm, impeccable service, knowing just when to offer a suggestion or simply let you savour the moment. Every detail is considered, from the glassware to the subtle garnishes that echo the season, creating a space where elegance is matched only by comfort. It’s luxury without pretension—a place where the ambiance is sophisticated, yet welcoming.
Whether you’re beginning your evening with a cocktail that captures Italy’s spirit or lingering over a glass of rich Tuscan red, The Bvlgari Hotel’s rooftop bar is more than just a stop—it’s a destination in itself. A place where each moment feels crafted to perfection, offering an experience of Rome that lingers long after you’ve finished your last sip.

3. Aleph Rome Hotel: exclusive poolside paradise with a Mediterranean vibe
The Aleph Rome Hotel, part of the Hilton Curio Collection, located a mere 10 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, is a sanctuary of luxury that feels like your own secret escape amidst the city’s grandiosity. At the heart of this refined retreat is Organics Sky Garden, the hotel’s rooftop haven. Perched high above Rome’s vibrant streets, it’s an oasis of calm and sophistication, one of the rare spots where you can soak up panoramic views without the crush of the crowds. Even rarer, the sparkling blue of the rooftop pool, adding a dash of exclusivity to the already luxurious atmosphere.
Upon my arrival, I was welcomed with warmth and grace by Amira, the hotel’s charming Guest Relations Specialist. Her presence set the tone for the visit—inviting and effortlessly sophisticated. As I stepped out of the elevator, she introduced me to Noelia, whom she called “the best of the best.” Noelia, with a smile as warm as heart-warming as the Aperol Spritz I was about to drink, guided me to a cozy corner of the terrace.
With the sun streaming down, Organics Sky Garden felt like a luxurious solarium suspended above the city. There’s not a lot of shade here, but that’s precisely the appeal—a golden Roman afternoon basking in the warmth of a Mediterranean glow. Spanish beats infused the rooftop with a laid-back vibe that had me swaying in my seat, wishing I was staying at the hotel to enjoy the pool.
Noelia brought over a bowl of rosemary-peeled almonds—an unexpectedly refined twist on the classic aperitivo accompanying snacks that was wildly delicious. Their herbal aroma filled the air, a perfect complement to the stunning view, and I found myself savouring each bite, appreciating how a small detail could elevate the entire experience.
My dear friend and our field correspond, Drew, joined me halfway through my spritz and enjoyed a freshly pressed “Yellow” mocktail with a single, enormous ice cube—a clear, elegant block—melting slowly, causing my jaw to drop in awe and say ever-so-eloquently: “I cannot get over this ice brick,” too many times. I had a sip of his drink and could not think of anything other than it being a radiant burst of tropical sunshine disguised as a beverage. Each sip begins with the sweet, juicy warmth of pineapple—a taste that feels like sinking into golden sands under a cloudless sky. Passion fruit syrup adds a layer of exotic tartness, a playful twist that lingers on the tongue like a summer romance. Simple syrup ties the flavours together with a gentle sweetness, balancing each note without overshadowing their natural brightness. Organic bitter lemon, a crisp and invigorating contrast that cuts through the sweetness, leaving a refreshing edge, serves as a beautiful finishing touch.
For those who crave a Roman experience that combines sophistication with a hint of Mediterranean playfulness, Organics Sky Garden at the Aleph Rome Hotel is a destination that seduces you with its blend of elegance, sunshine, and rhythm.
4. Hotel Indigo Rome: charming views and classic aperitivo in the Pantheon District
Hotel Indigo, part of the IHG family, is a love letter to Rome’s vibrant soul, wrapped in the cozy intimacy of a boutique stay. Tucked away in the enchanting Pantheon District, it’s a place where history mingles with contemporary style, and nowhere is that more evident than at its rooftop treasure, I Sofà Roof Terrace. This is where you come to soak in the spirit of Rome—where a casual aperitivo turns into a magical moment of connection.
La terrazza of I Sofà feels like a well-kept secret, suspended above the city’s ancient streets. Potted olive trees and climbing vines frame the space, giving it a garden-like charm that invites you to relax, linger, and savour. The design is unapologetically Italian—a colorful, modern twist on tradition that makes you feel like you’ve found your own slice of Roman paradise.
From this sixth-floor perch, the view is pure magic, and candidly, my favourite one of the four properties I visited.
Terracotta rooftops stretch out like a sea of rusty-red waves, their peaks and valleys glinting in the golden light of sunset. Here and there, the elegant domes of Rome’s churches punctuate the horizon, casting long, dramatic shadows as the day fades to evening.

Here and there, the elegant domes of Rome’s churches punctuate the horizon, casting long, dramatic shadows as the day fades to evening. It’s the kind of vista that feels almost unreal, as if you’ve stepped straight into a vintage postcard come to life—where every angle tells a story of time, tradition, and endless beauty.

My Hugo Spritz arrived with a bowl of endless peanuts—unexpectedly generous, a nod to the understated Roman spirit. It’s a humble snack, but in that bowl, with the sun dipping low and the air growing cool, it felt like a feast. The simplest things take on a certain magic here, a reminder that Rome’s greatest gifts are often its quietest ones.
This rooftop haven at Hotel Indigo is Rome distilled into a single space—vibrant, timeless, and full of life. It was magically humble and understated, yet somehow the most magificent. It’s where you go to fall in love with the city, over and over again, one sunset at a time.
